What does krishna mean by "I AM TIME"?

At the request of Arjuna, Sri Krishna shows HIS divine form - Viswarupa darshana. Arjuna could not control his fear on his seeing the Divine form, which so terrifying. So requests Sri Krishna to take his normal form and then asks, as follows:
आख्याहि मे को भवानुग्ररूपो नमोऽस्तु ते देववर प्रसीद।
विज्ञातुमिच्छामि भवन्तमाद्यं न हि प्रजानामि तव प्रवृत्तिम्।।11.31।।
Tell me who You are, fierce in form. Salutation be to you, O supreme God; be gracious. I desire to fully know You who are the Prima One. For I do not understand Your actions!

Understanding Arjuna’s predicament, Sri Krishna says,
I am the world-destroying Time, grown in stature and now engaged in annihilating the creatures. Even without you, all the warriors who are arrayed in the confronting armies will cease to exist!

While giving this discourse to Arjuna, the mind of Sri Krishna was merged in the BRAHMAN, and thus he identified himself with the all pervasive God.
The God has many forms - some being tangible and some other intangible, NATURE, TIME, DHARMA, etc.
It is ETERNAL. So also the God.
  • Nobody can catch or control the TIME. Nobody knows when it started, when it is going to END.
  • TIME will not appreciate/denounce/love/hate any one.
  • TIME will not rejoice if anyone overcomes his weakness and desires and becomes a great YOGI.
  • TIME will not get anguished if a dictator like HITLER kills thousands of people.
  • TIME is not bothered when a demon like Ravana is killed.
  • TIME will not stop, if a person like Sri Rama, EMBODIMENT of Dharma, passes away.
  • It is within and without us
  • It gives opportunities to the fallen people/beings to rise again
  • It humbles one who prides oneself to be SUPREME
  • It is the WITNESS every event that occurs, every thought that passes in our minds
TIME WILL MOVE ON.
So TIME is God.
